The original idea for the Transit originated from Henry Ford Jr., who in the 1950s proclaimed that the company would build “one van for Europe” and that set the tone for all the research and engineering that went into creating the van.
The first Transit rolled off a Berkshire, England assembly line in August 1965 with a base price of about $1,000 (equivalent to about $8,304.19 today). Interesting fact - In the 1970s, London Metro Police and Scotland Yard estimated that 95% of bank robberies were conducted with a Transit as the getaway vehicle due to their commonality, decent performance, and room for almost 2 tons of passengers (and money).
The fourth-generation Transit (2013 and newer) is built at 4 different locations around the globe: Nanchang, China; Yelabuga, Russia; Kocaeli, Turkey; and Claycomo, Missouri.

Stay True to Your Roots
Speaking of an OG, this customer has roots that run very deep in the van space! If you have ever seen a fiberglass shell on top of a Ford Econoline Van; you can thank them. Staying true to their roots this customer wanted their Ford Transit to stand out in a crowd and carry on the family tradition. We were honored to build this van for them.
It all started with a bed. Had to be comfortable, big, and feel like home. Something that after a long drive, day of exploring and adventuring you enjoy crawling into for a quick roadside nap, or a solid 8 hours of shut eye. With a 148 extended model, this made it a very easy starting point. In turn, this created a huge garage area underneath and large utility cabinets to house a large lithium power system, a hydronic heating system, and 40 gallons of fresh water.
Color, Comfort, and Room to Explore
Moving towards the front of the van a 130l fridge along the driver’s side and large passenger side galley with plenty of storage and ample counter space. Covered in a gorgeous Cascade Ice Solid Surface countertop. Laying ontop of textured grey charcoal C-tech lower cabinets, which looks amazing. However, the color doesn’t stop there. The C-Tech upper cabinets are a bright gloss white, with deep gloss orange doors! This colorway pops and screams “this is not your run of the mil mass-produced RV”. This is a reflection and dream of the customer that has come to life.
We are not done yet. This Transit was not just built for two. They also have their grandchild in mind and will be touring the country and visiting all the national parks and historical landmarks that they can. For that a Alpine Van Works Dual folding, swivel bench seat comes into play. Installed behind the driver’s seat for long travel days, and the ability to swivel and face out the slider door and days that they stop to take it all in. Multi-purpose and multi-function!
The exterior is tastefully done and purposeful. From the Quigley Suspension and Method wheels to help carry the added weight and to also enhance the driving experience. Front bumper, side ladder, rear door rack, and TOURIG Roof Rack time in all together nicely.
