It happens to the best of us.
You’re curious about something new—a hobby, a sport, a different way of traveling—so you dip your toes in. You buy the starter set of golf clubs, the entry-level woodworking tools, or the first smoker. You’re not sure yet if it’s going to become your thing or simply a fun chapter. Van life is no different.
Usually, one of two things happens: you realize it isn’t for you, and you’re glad you gave it a shot without going all in. Or, you’re hooked. You know what works, what doesn’t, and exactly what you’d do differently the second time around.
This customer chose option two.
From Trying Van Life to Becoming a Van Guy
His first van was a mass-produced build—a way to experience van life and see how it fit into his world.
It didn’t take long to realize just how much a van could change the way he traveled, pursued his hobbies, and spent time with family. He was officially a van guy.
But experience also made the shortcomings of his first van impossible to ignore. The layout felt cramped and didn’t support the way he actually used the space. The electrical and plumbing systems left something to be desired. And the overall craftsmanship simply wasn’t built to the standard he wanted long-term.
For van number two, he knew exactly what he was looking for: more room, better systems, superior craftsmanship, purposeful storage, and a design that didn’t look like every other van rolling off the lot.
That’s where TOURIG came in.
Built Around How He Actually Travels
Throughout the design process, our team listened closely to how he wanted to use the van—not just how he wanted it to look. He wanted room to move, lounge, and relax without sacrificing countertop space, storage, or a substantial rear garage.
So we built around those priorities.
Open the slider and you’re greeted by dark charcoal textured cabinetry paired with Inhabit floor coverings. A stainless-steel Isotherm refrigerator integrates cleanly into the space, while a custom walnut butcher-block countertop provides generous room for food prep, gear, or entertaining.
Cal Grey textured upper cabinetry contrasts against the white Ultraleather ceiling, creating an interior that feels bright, refined, and distinctly his.
The custom cushions were designed to complement the Scheel-Mann aftermarket cockpit seats, creating a seamless visual connection from the cab through the living space.
Toward the rear, a large fixed bed is always ready—whether it’s the end of a long day on the road or time for a quick recharge between adventures.
The Garage Changes Everything
Underneath the bed is one of the biggest upgrades from his previous van: dedicated, highly functional storage for bikes and gear.
The oversized garage houses the lithium power system, hydronic heating system, and 40 gallons of fresh water while still providing substantial usable storage.
Two custom Tembo Tusk heavy-duty slide trays make loading, organizing, and accessing bikes and gear dramatically easier—without sacrificing valuable space.
Everything has a purpose. Everything has a place.
Purposeful on the Outside, Too
The same philosophy carries through to the exterior. After owning a mass-produced van, this customer wasn’t interested in bolting on accessories simply to make the van look more capable. His approach the second time around was simple:
Clean. Purposeful. Capable.
An exterior storage box, awning, and upgraded Baja Designs fog lights provide what he needs without unnecessary extras. Agile Off-Road suspension, Flarespace, wheels, and BFGoodrich KO3 all-terrain tires complete a setup built to perform wherever the road takes him. No excess. No pretending. Just the right equipment for the job. The first van showed him what van life could be. The second was built around exactly how he wanted to live it. Done by TOURIG.
TRIED. TRUE. TESTED. TOURIG.
